The village of Amsoldingen is situated on the banks of Lake Amsoldingen approximately 5 km from Thun. Amsoldingen lies at 644 metres above sea level, with an area of 471 hectares and some 810 inhabitants. The community is bordered to the east by the Glütschbach valley and in the west by the Stocken valley. The coat of arms depicts a gothic belt buckle made of gold. Originally Amsoldingen was a Roman settlement and later a secular foundation for canons and students. The castle is privately owned.
Amsoldingen is well-known for its church, which is the largest Ottonian Basilica in the region wikipedia.org.
From 1728 to 1738 Samuel Lutz was the priest here.
A visit to the beautiful countryside here, either on foot (on the Pilgrims’ Way) or on a bicycle is well worth it and can be rounded off with a delicious meal or a visit to the village dairy.
