Thun is Switzerland's eleventh-largest city and is located at the entrance to the Bernese Oberland - right next to Lake Thun.
The city with its imposing castle and intact Old Town has almost 44,000 inhabitants and is Switzerland's tenth-largest agglomeration. The city centre is noted for its magnificent buildings, squares and raised pavements. Over time, the ruling Kyburg and Zähringer families left their mark on the city. Today, the main industries are tourism and the military.
