Oberhofen Castle on Lake Thun is famous for its distinctive mediaeval keep and its picturesque lakeside turret.
This romantic castle, with a keep that dates back to around 1200, has had numerous different owners during its eventful past. It was bought in 1844 by the Prussian Count Albert de Pourtalès from Neuchâtel, who converted it into a summer residence for his family, giving the ensemble its modern-day appearance.
Since 1954, the castle has housed a museum that presents the history of its former residents. The Oriental Smoking Room at the top of the tower offers a unique experience and a spectacular panorama over the lake and mountains. The Castle Chapel features impressive murals dating from the 15th century.

The Castle Gardens, landscaped in English style in miniature, offer breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps. Thanks to a mild climate, they are among the most beautiful in the Bernese Oberland region.
