Cruise on Lake Thun – adventures on and around the lake

Experience the largest lake in the Bernese Oberland by boat

A cruise on the clear, blue waters of Lake Thun amid the mountains of the Bernese Oberland is an unforgettable experience. During the unhurried two-hour trip from Thun to Interlaken, you can indulge in fine cuisine while casting admiring gazes at the castles on the banks and the mountains beyond. Leave your daily routine behind and enjoy the cruise.

Cruise on Lake Thun

The deep blue Lake Thun is the largest lake in the Bernese Oberland entirely located in the Canton of Bern. From it you can see green meadows, forests, the typical alps as well as the eternally white peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau beyond. During the summer months and between Christmas and New Year, the steamship Blümlisalp clatters and puffs its way across the clear blue waters of Lake Thun in the middle of this landscape. Your trip on Lake Thus can start at any jetty round Lake Thun. Check the departure times and the programmes on offer, then select the boat trip on the clear, blue waters of Lake Thun that most appeals. The trip over the lake goes from Interlaken West along the Neuhaus nature reserve, on towards the St. Beatus Caves and Beatenbucht, to Spiez, Gunten, Oberhofen, Hilterfingen, Hünibach and then ultimately on to Thun. The entire trip from Interlaken to Thun takes around two hours and 10 minutes.

A feeling of spring and trips in the autumn

The spring cruises on Lake Thun run in April and May. Autumn cruises take place from mid-October to mid-November. During this time, a breakfast boat travels daily from Thun to Interlaken at 9.40h. Enjoy the view of the spring blossoms or autumn colours on the shores of Lake Thun over a coffee. Or start your Sunday with a delicious brunch. A rich breakfast buffet with regional products awaits you. If you want to give yourself a culinary treat, take the fajita ship which runs from April to June and enjoy the Mexican “all you can eat” feast of nachos, guacamole and fajitas.

Summer refreshment

A cruise in the summer is the perfect way to relax on long hot days. The refreshing airstream and the splashing of the waves help you cool off in a pleasant atmosphere. Early birds can enjoy themselves on the breakfast cruise in the summer that leaves at 8.40h. This leisurely start to the morning can easily be combined with another excursion later in the day.

Evening trips

The sunset trips run daily from May to October. The boat leaves the landing stage Interlaken West at 18.10h. During the trip, you can enjoy one of the rich-coloured sunsets over Lake Thun while enjoying a 3-course Sunset menu on board. During the summer months, take a leisurely after-work trip on the steamship Blüemlisalp. Look forward to a wonderful summer evening with culinary delights.

Winter magic and delicious fondue

Since Lake Thun does not freeze over in the winter, the BLS fleet continues to operate daily trips from Thun to Interlaken and back. If you want to get Sunday off to a good start with an extended breakfast, the Lake Thun brunch is the perfect choice. From November to the end of March, enjoy an extensive Sunday-morning buffet on board during a cruise between the landing stages Thun and Spiez, with a wide range of regional products, for example from the Ballenberg. Combine Swiss tradition with a cruise on Lake Thun in winter. During the trip you can treat yourself and your guests to a warm cheese fondue, fondue chinoise or raclette.

Nostalgic steamboat trip
