Mountain excursions around Lake Thun

There are many options for exploring the mountains around Lake Thun. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the deep blue lake and the surrounding summits. In summer and winter, the Stockhorn inspires not just fishermen, but connoisseurs too. Check out the possibilities and spend a wonderful evening, complete with fabulous views. Its pyramid-like shape makes the Niesen immediately recognisable. In summer, the Berghaus Niesen Kulm offers a cultural programme of music and other highlights. The Niesen also has much to attract sportspeople and families. There is another excursion destination – the Niederhorn – on the other side of Lake Thun. There’s a lot to do on the Niederhorn in both summer and winter. Hiking, wildlife watching, scooter biking, sledging, skiing, snowshoe trekking – what would you like to experience?
 

Mountain railway excursions from Interlaken

A 10-minute railway ride transports you up the Harder Kulm, Interlaken’s local mountain, to enjoy peerless views of the city and the Jungfrau region beyond, where the snow-capped peaks include the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. On the other side of Interlaken is the Schynige Platte, which can be reached by historic steam train. Once at the top, indulge in reminiscence and enjoy the panoramic views of Interlaken and the lakes of Thun and Brienz. There are also alpine plant and flower species to admire at the Botanical Alpine Garden.

Brienzer Rothorn

The evocative ascent of the Brienzer Rothorn via Planalp takes about an hour, taking in meadows, forests and dramatic rock faces. Along the way, expect to see grazing cattle and, if you’re lucky, a nimble chamois or a majestic ibex. A breathtaking panorama awaits at the summit. The turquoise waters of Lake Brienz, the colourful flowers and the impressive mountain backdrop make for some beautiful photo opportunities.

Another path tracing Lake Brienz from Iseltwald to the Giessbach Falls is also recommended; along the way, you never lose sight of the spectacular Brienzergrat.
