Cross Lake Brienz and Lake Thun by kayak

Glide by kayak over the lakes of the Holiday Region Interlaken

When you kayak on the lakes of the Bernese Oberland, you are encircled by stunning mountain scenery where every season has its own beauty. Lake Brienz exudes a deep turquoise in spring, while colourful leaves adorn the surface of the lake in autumn. A kayak tour in winter is especially atmospheric. Lake Thun attracts visitors with its crystal clear waters and stunning mountain panoramas. Viewed from the water, the five castles on the banks of the lake can be appreciated from a whole new perspective.

Rent a kayak on Lake Thun

Why not discover Lake Thun by kayak? Rent a one-person or two-person kayak from the Deltapark Vitalresort in Gwatt near Thun and paddle the canoe trail along the banks of Lake Thun. Along the way you can admire splendid castles amid the surrounding peaks. On the opposite side of Lake Thun, close to Interlaken, you have the chance to paddle a kayak into the sunset. Rent a kayak at Neuhaus to enjoy the views of the nearby mountains.

Guided kayak tours and coaching

Kayaks can also be rented at Bönigen on Lake Brienz. Here you can sign up for a guided half-day or full-day tour in the company of an experienced kayaking professional: you may head for the imposing Giessbach falls, or take an evening tour. The Hightide Kayak School also offers courses and coaching. Learn to paddle efficiently, and try out new manoeuvres on the water. A professional coach will teach you how to kayak on a lake, river or even the sea.

Surfskiing on Lake Thun

Ready to try something new? Surfskiing is sure to fit the bill. The main difference between surfskiing and kayaking is the sitting position: the raised seat means a surfski has greater stability in the water, while the low weight allows you to glide swiftly over the lake. Visitors can rent surfskis from local suppliers at five sites around Lake Thun. Introductory courses, guided tours and team events are also available. Paddle out onto the lake and take a break to feel fresh energy and strength course through your body.

Atmospheric winter kayaking tour of Lake Brienz

A half-day kayaking tour in winter is a wondrous experience. Equipped with a hat, comfortable clothing and dry suit, you take to the water and paddle your way slowly to the middle of the lake to enjoy the wintry tranquillity. Along the way the group takes a break for some hot tea. Whatever the weather, the mood on the lake is delightful. With snowy mountain peaks rising from the drifting mist on Lake Brienz, kayaking in winter becomes an unforgettably beautiful experience.
