The Kleine Scheidegg is the mountain pass that runs between the Eiger and the Lauberhorn. From Interlaken Ost, you can reach the Kleine Scheidegg in an hour and 15 minutes via Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. From an altitude of 2061 m above sea level, the views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are unrivalled.

The Kleine Scheidegg promises breathtakingly panoramic hikes around the north face of the Eiger. If you would like to experience the Eiger’s world-famous north face without the need for rope and tackle, the Eiger Trail is perfect. This beautifully planned mountain trail promises superb views of the Lauberhorn, while the Kleine Scheidegg and Grindelwald valley lead straight along the foot of the towering north face of the Eiger. Not everyone can conquer the north face, but everyone is captivated by it. If you are looking for a gentle walk, the Jungfrau Eiger Walk allows you to marvel at the mighty rock face at close quarters. On the Lauberhorn Trail, meanwhile, you can walk the longest descent in alpine skiing at a leisurely pace during the summer; this leaves you plenty of time to savour the stunning aspect of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Enjoy skiing and snowboarding on the Kleine Scheidegg

The skiing season starts in December, when visitors ski and snowboard down the slopes of the Kleine Scheidegg. The breathtaking sight of the mighty monoliths of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau inspires skiers and snowboarders alike. The Grindelwald-Wengen skiing area offers slopes for all abilities. It is possible to make a lengthy descent through the valley from the Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen. Every winter, a renowned World Cup race is held on the Lauberhorn. Be there to witness the world’s longest downhill race. A chair lift will take you from the Kleine Scheidegg to the start of the race.

Sledging and snowshoe trekking

To begin the panoramic winter hike, travel to Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen by road or rail and transfer to the Wengernalpbahn, the longest continuous rack-and-pinion railway in the world. Once at the top, the panorama is breathtakingly spectacular. The winter trail extends down from the Kleine Scheidegg to Berghaus Alpiglen, where you can warm up over some hot chocolate while enjoying more peerless views of the north face of the Eiger. The Alpiglen is also the start point of the famous Eiger Run, an incredible 3.5 km sledging run with a gradients of up to 36 %. Uniquely, it is also possible to experience an illuminated descent to Brandegg after dark. Combine your sledging adventure with a tasty fondue at the Berghaus Alpiglen or the Restaurant Brandegg. If you don’t bring your own sledge, you can rent one at the Kleine Scheidegg.
