Ski touring in the Holiday Region Interlaken

Peak experiences on touring skis or a splitboard

In winter, some of the Holiday Region Interlaken’s snow-crested peaks are only accessible on touring skis or a splitboard. After a challenging ascent to the summit, you will be rewarded with a wonderful 360° panorama.

Your very own winter peak experience

Through snow-covered Alpine meadows and dense pine forests, past pretty Alpine cabins: every step you take brings you closer to the summit. Ski touring requires fitness, skill, the right equipment and a good knowledge of the weather and snow. If you’re interested in learning this sport, the best plan is to book onto an avalanche course and then make your first mountain hike with an expert mountain guide. Forward planning and preparation is advised. Out in the mountains on your skis or snowboard, you’ll find peace and quiet amid a snowy natural landscape. Though remember: Animals love peace and quiet just as much as people do. Find out the locations of the area’s various wildlife conservation zones and please respect them.

Ski touring through the beautiful Diemtigtal Nature Park

The Diemtigtal is famous among mountaineers and ski touring enthusiasts alike for its varied hikes. The range of accommodation options on offer in the high villages of the Diemtigtal make them the perfect starting point for a week of touring too. The Diemtigtal is quick and easy to get to, which is also perfect for day hikes on touring skis or a splitboard. From easy hikes to Meniggrat, 1949 meters above sea level, to more demanding hikes to the Rothorn at 2410 meters above sea level, the Diemtigtal offers a challenge for hikers of all abilities. A ski tour to Galmschibe or the Rauflihorn is very popular and well worth the effort. When the snows on Galmschibe have receded, the Drümännler at 2436 meters above sea level is a good alternative. Turnen and the Wiriehorn are perfect for training hikes. At 2652 meters above sea level, the highest peak in the Diemtigtal is the Männliflue, which should only be tackled by advanced ski tourers. For hikes to the summit of Turnen or Meniggrat, it’s best to book the ski touring bus.

Ski touring in the Holiday Region Interlaken

How about a ski tour from Lombachalp towards Hohgant or from Niederhorn to the Gemmenalphorn? Both descents through the deep snow end in the pretty village of Habkern. In midwinter, when the region is covered in a thick blanket of snow, you can ski tour from Aeschiried to the Brunni alp or the Stockhorn. From Interlaken, the Jungfrau region is a mere stone’s throw away: How about a ski touring expedition from the First summit station to the Faulhorn at 2681 meters above sea level or from the Schilthorn to the Hundshorn at 2929 meters above sea level? The latter is particularly beautiful in spring when the valley comes into bloom.
