More than a normal cable car ride thanks to guaranteed views of a natural paradise

Enjoy a panoramic trip on the Stockhorn Cableway. Reach the summit of the Stockhorn in just 20 minutes. The magnificent view of the gondola ride makes your excursion a varied experience right from the beginning, at any season. At the top, you can look forward to fresh mountain air, exciting activities, hiking trails for all levels, and delightful culinary moments.

With a summit at 2,190 m above sea level, the Stockhorn is the highest mountain in the Stockhorn Range. The imposing peak towers over the city of Thun at the entrance to the Holiday Region Interlaken. As you travel from Bern towards the Bernese Oberland, the peak is visible long before you arrive. A wide range of natural and mountain experiences, as well as culinary highlights, await you on the Stockhorn at any time of the year. On clear days, the views down to the city of Thun and its lake and across the Central Plateau to Jura are simply stunning. The cable car transports visitors from Erlenbach in the Simmental valley to the summit station on the Stockhorn in less than 20 minutes. The Stockhorn Cableway comprises two sections: A pair of modern panoramic cabins shuttle between Erlenbach and the midway station of Chrindi. Here, you change to one of the iconic red gondola and swing over Lake Hinterstocken on your way to the summit. The two-and-a-half-mile journey is an impressive experience full of views.

From spring to fall
From spring to fall, the Stockhorn is a tempting choice offering easy-going hiking trails and fast-paced scooter bike descents, climbing routes and bungee jumps, as well as fishing at Lake Hinterstocken and a quiz while out in the mountains. There’s something for everyone.

In winter
In winter, the mountains around the Stockhorn transform into a tranquil natural spectacle. The frozen Lake Hinterstocken is perfect for skating or ice fishing, and the snowy landscape can be explored at your leisure on snowshoes. Those looking for a warm refreshment afterwards can order an igloo fondue right on the mountain or enjoy drinks and snacks at the bar.

Operating hours
The Stockhorn Cableway operates year-round. The summer season lasts from mid-April to mid-November. Over this period, the cable car operates daily. From mid-November onwards, the cable car only operates from Wednesday to Sunday. In the first week of January, however, you can take advantage of daily trips to the snowy peak of the Stockhorn.
