The Gasterntal above Kandersteg is a pristine high valley of great scenic beauty. The hike along the Kander is also suitable for families with children. Only natural surfaces.

Nature lovers cherish the Gasterntal, accessible only during the summer season, because of its untouched nature that reminds one of Canada. Flower enthusiasts come here because of the lady's slipper orchids and Turkish lilies, which bloom in June and July respectively. Those seeking tranquility appreciate that the adventurous access deters many drivers from visiting the Gasterntal. Families with children are drawn to the high valley because of the many play and picnic opportunities on the banks of the Kander.

From the Hotel Gasterntal bus stop in Selden, you first make a detour to the beautifully located mountain guesthouse Heimritz. The hiking trail rises alongside the Kander, through forest and meadows, and brings you in just 30 minutes to the mountain guesthouse. For the return journey, take the natural lane that runs mostly on the left side of the river. Here, you don't have to pay attention to the path and can let your gaze wander freely. From Selden, the route leads gently downhill in a northwesterly direction. New bridges and fallen trees remind you of the power of the water, which repeatedly seeks new paths. Along the banks of the Kander, there are many beautiful places to pause and relax. Through a bright floodplain forest and over meadows, you finally reach a wide plain and the Waldhaus restaurant. From there, it goes back through the forest and over a bridge to the natural road where the bus stop is located. If you still have time, stroll downhill on the road and admire again the different colors of the water, which has a peculiar magic up here.
