A walk along the Brienz lake promenade, directly on the lakeshore, past small boat harbors and playgrounds, is a relaxing experience.

Such a promenade, also called a quay, is hardly found at other Swiss lakes. A first quay facility was built already between 1911-1915 with excavation material from the railway tunnel that runs under the village. The facility was heavily damaged in February 1990 by the centennial storm Vivian.

Subsequently, stone blocks were piled along the quay wall as wave breakers and soon the new Brienz lake promenade emerged. Besides the red resting benches, additional seating and reclining options have been installed in recent years. Often the wide walls are also used as seating and reclining places. The view of the lake is a unique experience.

At several places stone stairs allow direct access to the water. In summer, locals and guests like to gather there for a swim. At Cholplatz in summer there are open-air concerts, the International Woodcarver Symposium, or the "Quay Festival of the Music Society" and the federal holiday celebration take place.

Don't forget your swimwear in summer. But be careful, the water of Lake Brienz is very fresh even in summer. View of the village from the Reformed Church Brienz.
