The winter hike in the First area offers everything sun-seeking people could wish for: physical activity, variety, beautiful views, and lots of sunshine.

The winter hike begins at the Schreckfeld station of the First cable car. From here, the path soon leads steeply and sweat-inducingly upwards towards First. This is reached after a short time. Those planning a leisurely day can skip this warm-up by taking the gondola to the First mountain station. In the bustle of skiers around the mountain station, care is needed to not lose track despite the good signage of the winter hiking trail. About ten minutes after the mountain station, you pass Adi's ski bar. The winter hiking trail continues ascending. The typical sounds of skiers and snowboarders and the speaker music slowly fade away. Only the crunching of footsteps and your own breathing remain audible. Soon the wind, which almost always blows here, joins in. After the highest point is passed, the path returns. Now it goes down to the huts of Bachläger. Especially on the steeper sections, poles are helpful depending on snow conditions and trail preparation. From Bachläger, it's not far to the Waldspitz guesthouse, which lives up to its name: it really lies at the edge of the forest. The guesthouse terrace probably counts among the most beautiful in terms of view, even in panorama-spoiled Grindelwald. From here, the winter hiking trail leads in numerous switchbacks through sparse forest. With some luck, you might spot a nutcracker bird, with a lot of luck even a bearded vulture. After a short section over open terrain, the winter hiking trail leads back into the forest. Soon the winter hiking trail from Bussalp comes in from the right. Finally, you reach the mid-station Bort. Here you can enjoy the sun one last time. Because the gondola ride not only takes you back to the valley but also to the shade and the cold of the majestic Eiger.
