The high-altitude hike from Brienzer Rothorn to Turren can best be described as extremely varied and scenic. The ride with the nostalgic steam locomotive is an experience for both young and old. An impressive ridge hike awaits us along the cantonal borders of Bern-Lucerne and Bern-Obwalden. The ridge is nowhere difficult to walk, so the tour can also be undertaken by families with somewhat experienced children.

Just 100 meters from the Rothorn mountain station is the Rothorn Kulm mountain lodge and another 300 meters to the summit restaurant Rothorn, where you could already take the first break. However, it is still just under 60 vertical meters to the highest point in the canton of Lucerne, the Rothorn summit. From the summit, one is rewarded with a breathtaking view from the Central Plateau over Lake Brienz to the Bernese high Alps.

A few meters below the summit, the path to the Eiseesattel branches off; we reach it by descending the east flank of the Brienzer Rothorn above the lake of the same name. This is the only significant ascent of the tour. After just a few minutes, the path becomes more exposed; the most exposed section is secured with a wire cable. Shortly afterwards, we reach the ridge. Along a lush flora, the varied ridge section leads up to the summit of Arnihaaggen. Descending a bit via its grassy southern flank, we then hike along the ridge to the summit structure of Höch Gumme. The mountain is bypassed at a constant height over the southern flank. Snow can lie in the gullies to be crossed well into the summer, so increased caution is necessary here. From the Gibel trail junction at P.2039, the exposed sections are behind us. Soon we reach the Schönbüel mountain lodge, a nice place to stop for refreshments.

Directly behind the inn, a path gently descends over alpine meadows. After half the descent, we reach the alpine settlement of Breitenfeld with its small chapel. Partly on an alpine road, partly over alpine meadows, the white-red-white trail markings lead us downhill to the Turren mountain station and the restaurant with its inviting terrace.
