Under the spell of the Wetterhorn, the route leads from the Schwarzwaldalp through the fairytale winter landscape to the Grosse Scheidegg and on to Grindelwald. Only at the top of the pass do you catch your first glimpse of the north face of the Eiger and the high peaks of the Bernese Oberland. From there, the impressive panorama takes you to the glacier village of Grindelwald.

The snowshoe tour starts at Schwarzwaldalp. The trail leads via Alpiglen or alternatively via Oberläger to Grosse Scheidegg. On the Chiemattenhubla plateau, the trail branches off in the direction of Grindelwald. The trail leads via Stepfi and Holzmad, Unterer Lauchbühl to the Hotel Wetterhorn (bus stop Oberer Gletscher). Enjoy this trial in a relaxed manner and without time pressure, treat yourself to a night at the Hotel Schwarzwaldalp at the starting point of the tour before the start and end the day at the Hotel Wetterhorn in Grindelwald, for example.

Directions & Parking facilities

By car There are various ways to get here by car. From Basel and Geneva, the quickest route is via Bern. From Zurich, the quickest route is via Lucerne and the Brünig Pass. The pass is open in summer and winter.

From the south, the Grimsel or Susten Pass is the fastest way to reach the region. Both passes are only open in summer. Alternatively, there is the Simplon Pass and then the Lötschberg car transport.

If you are traveling to Meiringen by car, you can park at the Park & Ride Aareschlucht and travel comfortably by bus(map). The municipality of Meiringen has 835 additional public parking spaces in the village center and at the valley station of the Meiringen-Hasliberg cable cars. All parking spaces are metered daily (including Sundays) from 08:00 to 19:00. The exception is the Casino AEH (parking garage), which is managed 24 hours a day.

The road between Zwirgi and Schwarzwaldalp is cleared white in winter (limited winter service). Appropriate winter equipment is required for the journey (snow chains compulsory).
