Starting from the traditional Hotel Rosenlaui at the entrance to the mystical Rosenlaui Gorge, the hike follows the Rychenbach along the Gschwantenmad downhill. Here it becomes clear why the Rychenbach valley enchanted numerous artists and poets in the 18th century: The Rosenlaui Glacier looks majestic, the mighty slopes of Well- and Wetterhorn form a contrast to the lovely, lush meadows through which the brook winds. The wonderful alpine landscape is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch and belongs to the most spectacular high mountain landscapes in the world. The path runs from Kaltenbrunnensäge and Zwirgi along the Rychenbach waterfalls down to Willigen. A detour to the roaring waterfalls of the Rychenbach is worthwhile as well as a visit to the village of Meiringen. From Willigen, the route passes the west entrance of the Aare Gorge via Wylerli and through the Tripfi forest onto the high plateau at Hasliberg Reuti.
The untamed power of the glacier water can be experienced on the circular hike through the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge. On a well-secured path, you can walk past powerful waterfalls, romantic grottos, and bizarre sculpted rocks.
The Rychenbachfall near Meiringen is a 300-meter-high cascade of seven waterfalls. The upper Rychenbachfall is the highest. It became world-famous through Conan Doyle’s story "The Final Problem" from 1893, where Sherlock Holmes fights a bitter battle with his arch-enemy, Professor Moriarty. The struggle ended with a fall into the waterfall. The waterfall can be explored by foot and is also accessible by a nostalgic railway.
Meiringen is the largest town in the Hasli Valley and offers itself as a starting point for numerous excursions into the surrounding mountain world. The Italian confectioner Gasparini is said to have first created a dessert from sugar and egg white in Meiringen around 1600. In reference to the village Meiringen, Gasparini named his sweet invention Meringue.
The Aare Gorge was shaped over thousands of years by the Aare Glacier. The gorge is continuously walkable on well-secured paths and footbridges and offers an impressive natural spectacle.
