The compact, wheelchair-accessible route takes you past twelve stations. At each station, a video accessible via QR code awaits you, in which experts share their knowledge.

Ballenberg à la Carte: A menu for knowledge thirst.

Experience the Ballenberg open-air museum in a compact way: Equipped with the Ballenberg "à la Carte" menu card and your smartphone, you explore the grounds on the newly created route. In exciting short films, Ballenberg experts provide you with in-depth insights into everyday life, the buildings, and the crafts at twelve stations.

The films can be accessed via QR code. The selected locations are also easily accessible for people with mobility impairments – thanks to the JST-Mountain Drive electric wheelchair available at the West entrance.

Directions

The route takes you through the Jura, Central Mittelland, and Bernese Mittelland regions in the western part of the open-air museum. You start at the West entrance. The menu card guides you from station to station, leads you through the forest, past the bee house, and through the medicinal and herb garden. Admire the old farmhouses from all over Switzerland. The route ends near the West entrance, at the house from Ostermundigen. Here you can enjoy homemade delicacies from Ballenberg.

Getting there

From Brienz, Meiringen, or Brünig Pass, follow the signs for "Ballenberg West" (3858 Hofstetten).

  • Via Lausanne - Bern - Interlaken – Brienz – Ballenberg
  • Via Zürich - Lucerne – Brünig Pass – Brienzwiler – Ballenberg (West entrance - not East entrance)
  • Via Chiasso - Gotthard - Göschenen - Brienz
Parking

There are parking spaces at both the West and East entrances.

Public transportation

Train travelers can take the Zentralbahn from Interlaken or Lucerne directly to Brienz or the Brünig. From the Brienz and Brünig stations, a regular bus goes to the Ballenberg West and Ballenberg East entrances. Bus number 151

Safety guidelines

At the West entrance, two JST-Mountain Drive electric wheelchairs are available for people with mobility impairments. They are easy to use and handle even steep and rough sections without difficulty.
