People from many countries around the world know the Höreli trail, which leads gently ascending northwards from Adelboden through green mountain meadows, forest, and pastures to the Egg near Höreli. Just after crossing the first ravine, the path turns along the slope towards the Schlegeli. With every step, one penetrates deeper into the harsh, barren mountain world. The Höreli is a wooded rocky peak. In former times, it served as a lookout. In times of war danger, the "Chutz" (a pyramid of trimmed branches) was lit to alert those fit for military service. The route continues through the flank of the Tschentenalp and over the Tschentenegge, partly through forest, partly over open alpine pastures. Passing the mountain station of the Tschentenbahn, one soon reaches the Schwandfälspitz, which offers a comprehensive view. The descent heads south towards the avalanche defense dam, then pleasantly through alpine pastures and forest to the Schärmtanne. A mighty spruce, the Schärmtanne (Schärm = protection), once stood here. People and livestock sought shelter under its wide branches during storms. A violent storm night in 1918 brought it down by a gust of wind. Now you descend to the Allebach and follow it on the opposite bank through the Münti to the Steinige Brügg, which connects to the village center of Adelboden.
